I wrote a post that I said I got indexed in Google in 20 minutes after publishing the post. I used ping services. Ping services is a way by which your blog tells servers that you have made a new post. This would help to keep your blog fresh on search engines. The Ping services I used were

Apart from Google, Yahoo and MSN live search, there are other search engines. These other search engines won’t drive a lot of traffic to your site, but it is still good if you submit your site to them. The other search engines are Cuil and Ask.

Submitting Your Blog to Cuil

Cuil is faily new search engine. It came out in August 2008. The owners plan is to out-rank Google as the top most search engine. Cuil boasts of more than 100 billion web pages it has indexed. I haven’t read about anyone saying she/she got traffic from Cuil to their blog.

To submit to Cuil, go to Submit Site. On the webpage, you have 2 textbox: Your Email and site URL box. In the Your Email box, entering your email is optional. In the Site URL, you will enter your site URL for submission. After submitting, you will see a message on a page saying “Your message has been sent. Thanks for writing us.”

Submitting Your Blog to Ask

I can only find how to submit your sitemap to Ask. I got the information from Ask: webmasters. These are the instructions given to submit your sitemap.

SITEMAP: http://www.the URL of your sitemap here.xml

The sitemap location should be the full sitemap URL. Alternatively, you can also submit your sitemap through the ping URL:

http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A//www.the URL of your sitemap here.xml

If done correctly, you would see this message

Your Sitemap submission was successful

Your Sitemap has been successfully received and added to our Sitemap queue.
Thank you for your submission!

After Google search, the next 2 most popular search engines are Yahoo and MSN live search. Both search engines have dedicated users i.e. some of the users vow to use only either Yahoo or MSN live search. They would not even think of using Google. Since both sites are search engines, they would have search eniges bots to crawl your blog. It is imperative to submit your URL to  both Yahoo and MSN live search

Submit Your Blog URL to Yahoo

At the submission page, you can submit your blog and/or submit your blog feed. You have to click on the arrow so that it can expand to show you the submission text box. Also, click on the arrow to revel the text box of the submit your blog feed. Submit your Site to Yahoo

Submit Your Blog To MSN Live

On the submission page MSN just requires you to submit URL and to enter a captcha. The captcha is a 5 letters word and it is legible. I dislike doing captcha because at times the letters are barely legible. After submission, MSN live search tells you that it indexes pages that it accepts pages that meets it standards. You should be patient and check periodically. Submit to MSN.

I prefer the Google’s submission to these two because you can write a summary about your site using your keywords. But since Yahoo and MSN live submission are free, I will take advanced of it.

If you are reading this blog, this means that you know about Google search. In the blogosphere, most bloggers refer to Google as the best search engine to get traffic.

How can You get Google to index Your site Quickly? That is easy. it is done in two ways

1. Submit Your URL to Google :- When submitting, use the full URL i.e. in my case I would submit http://www.blogsnd.com. In the content form, write the description of your site. The description is the summary of your site. You should put your keywords in the description. I wrote “Blog with Make Money Online skill”. From the text written on the page, Google doesn’t guarantee that every site would be indexed. Don’t be worried, I think Google indexes every blog. The sites not indexed should be gambling, pornography or harmful sites. Submit your URL to Google.

2. Include a Sitemap of Your Blog :- A sitemap shows the organization of the pages on your blog on a web page. It helps search engine bots and people to navigate your site easily. You can have a look at my sitemap. To make your site map, you can go to sitemap generator to make your sitemap. It is free for up to 500 pages. If your blog is hosted on wordpress, you can use a plugin to generate your sitemap. I use the Google XML Sitemap Plugin. Follow the instructions on the installation tab to install the plugin. Then login into Google Webmaster (you need to have a Google account, it is free). Add your blog’s URL at the form where you see Add Site. Then click on sitemap and submit your sitemap. Submitting your sitemap  also helps Google to show you how it sees your blog. You can see the keywords people searched for on Google’s search engine that brought them to your site.

The recommended blogging platform depends on what you want. There are many different blogging platform that you use to blog. It depends on you, the webmaster to choose what best fits your need. There is a list of weblogs at wikipedia. Amond all the blogging platform, some platform needs you to download and install, some are open source and free, some are proprietary software that may be licensed for a fee or have versions available free of charge.

From the choice of platform of the top 100 blogs in 2008, you will see that WordPress is the most used platform. Not only with the A-list bloggers, wordpress is the most used platform in the blogosphere.

Why does the A-list bloggers use their platform. I don’t know why, but I can speak from my experience with blogger, wordpress, wordpress.org.

1. Blogger :- This is a free blogging service owned by Google. It is easy to use. This is the recommended blogging platform to start with. Most bloggers strat with this one to get a feel of how to blog on a software. But it has its disadvantages. It doesn’t allow you to customize your blog. Register with Blogger.

2. WordPress :- This is a free open source platform that needs to be hosted on your server. At first, it seems complicated to use, but gradually it would become easy. WordPress allows you to do anything you want. You can customize it to your taste. The only disadvantage is that it needs costant update to keep up with security issues. Download and install WordPress

3. WordPress.com :- This is the free version of wordpress.org. It is updated constantly by the wordpress team. The only disadvantage is that it doesn’t allow Javascript code. You need javascript code to run adsense, analytics, and some affiliate links. Get wordpress.com blog.

I recommend using hosted wordpress if you can afford a webhost. I just only have to update it. But for beginners, blogger is recommended to get a feel of blogging water.
